Flea Market Fancy Banner Quilt

As I mentioned in my last post, that whole banner quilt pattern I was working on didn’t turn out so hot on the first try. I really wanted to have this finished by First Friday so I can show it off. I did it in a bit of a hurry, but took time to make sure everything was just right and record all of my steps so I can make a really good pattern for it.

I am sort of in love with this one. Here is the top (that I managed to crank out in just a few hours). I think Oliver (one of the kitties that lives in my yard) liked it too but wasn’t too keen on having her photo taken.

And here is the finished quilt.

And the back.

I am finishing up writing the pattern for this quilt and plan on having it for sale in my shop pretty soon.

I think I’ll be slowing down quite a bit since my break is almost over and I’ll be heading back to work. I’m really happy with everything that I completed though!

New Quilts

Did I mention I’ve been sewing non-stop? So as promised here are the new quilts that are or are soon to be for sale in my shop.

I originally made this one for myself and still really like it so I am not sure if I am going to sell it or not, but I figured it needed a good photograph anyway.

And finally is the banner quilt I have been working on. After finishing it up, which I wasn’t too pleased with, I decided it was all wrong. It’s too narrow and long. I’m still planning on selling it if anyone is interested in it, but I don’t think it’s my best work. I totally redid the quilt and love the new one. I’ll share that one in my next post.

More soon.

Sewing Non-Stop

In my last post I mentioned how I am planning for a super awesome show here in Indianapolis in June called the Indieana Handicraft Exchange. On top of that, I am planning on having a table at First Friday coming up in just a few days! I have been frantically trying to get as much finished as possible including getting my finished quilts photographed outside since the weather has been so great. Some I already had listed in my shop, but others are new. I’ll share everything I get wrapped up over the next week if I have enough time to sit down and write about it.

Here are the older quilts that I just rephotographed.

Check in tomorrow for all the new ones!

Finally Finished Quilt

A woman I work with started a quilt for a friend who was going to have a baby. They were going to work on it together and then the friend ended up moving away. Fast forward four years and another baby later….and the quilt had not been finished. It was mostly done, just needed a little more quilting and binding. I said I would finish it up for her.

The quilt is actually way more simple than it appears. My co-worker and her friend bought several already quilted pillowcases from Pottery Barn. They just cut them up and stitched them back together. I think it’s pretty adorable. Anyway, I just finished up the quilting and did the binding. I love the binding. It was blue stripes which made it diagonal once I made it into bias tape.

Recent Sewing Projects – Solids

As I said in my last post, I had nearly two weeks of non-stop sewing. Here are a few non-quilt related items I made.

I purchased a charm pack of Bella warm pastels. I didn’t really have a plan for it but liked the colors. I just started cutting and sewing and it turned into this little panel. I wasn’t really sure what to do with it, but I decided the pillows on my couch were starting to look a little tired, so I turned it into this little pillowcase.

I had sewn a string of these little squares together and liked it with the Kona gray so much, I decided to make a super simple quilt.I really love the simplicity of this quilt and it was so fast. I currently have it for sale in my shop.

I also decided to make a quilt for myself. It’s sort of a lap size. The colors are a little different in person. I love it.

I originally had it laid out like this. I wasn’t really loving it so I ripped it apart and redid it.

I love this way so much more.

I had some pieces left over so I made this little pouch. I hadn’t done much quilting, so I used this as practice.

That’s all for now. Even more projects coming soon!

It’s been a while

Clearly it has been a while since I’ve posted anything here, but it wasn’t because I wasn’t making anything. I’ve actually jumped head first into quilting. I’ve actually finished several and have several more in the works. A friend told me about this awesome new little fabric shop near my house that’s all modern fabrics. I go to open sew there every other Saturday and get to hang out with some other sewers since sewing can be sort of a loner activity. Also since I work at a school, I still have winter break. I had two weeks of nearly non-stop sewing.

Want to see some of what I’ve made?

After I made Clara’s quilt, I had more of the same triangles left over so I made another similar quilt. My co-worker ended up buying this one for her youngest daughter for Christmas.

With another set of the same triangle pieces, I made this rainbow stripe quilt. This was the first quilt I sold from my shop! Very exciting.

Sorry for the bad iPhone pic. I wasn’t really thinking about documenting quilts while I was working on these earlier quilts. I did this one for a co-worker. She commissioned two quilts for family members who were having babies.

This is the second quilt. I cut up all of the triangles for both quilts at the same time because they were using the same fabrics. My co-worker, Angi, just asked me to make two of the same quilt because the two babies were from opposite sides of her family and would probably never meet each other. After the first quilt, I decided to play around with the triangles and showed Angi this style and she LOVED it. So two quilts with the same fabric but different looks.

Just a few of my earlier project. More on the way!
