Cross Quilt

Next quilt is my first attempt at a modern style cross quilt. I sort of just made this up as I went along. I looked at the pattern I had in a book, but it was much more complicated. This one was just made by using a square in the center and using rectangles on the sides. I used Denyse Schmidt’s line of fabric for Joann’s. This quilt is also available in my shop.

I didn’t do much quilting on this one. I kept it really simple.

What do you think? Do you have any recent projects that you made with your own pattern?

*Also, today is my little sister’s 21st birthday! That’s insane. She is perpetually six years old in my head.*

It’s been a while

Clearly it has been a while since I’ve posted anything here, but it wasn’t because I wasn’t making anything. I’ve actually jumped head first into quilting. I’ve actually finished several and have several more in the works. A friend told me about this awesome new little fabric shop near my house that’s all modern fabrics. I go to open sew there every other Saturday and get to hang out with some other sewers since sewing can be sort of a loner activity. Also since I work at a school, I still have winter break. I had two weeks of nearly non-stop sewing.

Want to see some of what I’ve made?

After I made Clara’s quilt, I had more of the same triangles left over so I made another similar quilt. My co-worker ended up buying this one for her youngest daughter for Christmas.

With another set of the same triangle pieces, I made this rainbow stripe quilt. This was the first quilt I sold from my shop! Very exciting.

Sorry for the bad iPhone pic. I wasn’t really thinking about documenting quilts while I was working on these earlier quilts. I did this one for a co-worker. She commissioned two quilts for family members who were having babies.

This is the second quilt. I cut up all of the triangles for both quilts at the same time because they were using the same fabrics. My co-worker, Angi, just asked me to make two of the same quilt because the two babies were from opposite sides of her family and would probably never meet each other. After the first quilt, I decided to play around with the triangles and showed Angi this style and she LOVED it. So two quilts with the same fabric but different looks.

Just a few of my earlier project. More on the way!

I made an entire quilt in 6 hours!

It was a baby quilt, but considering this is only the second one I’ve ever made, I’m pretty proud. A friend’s baby is turning one this week, so I made this for her birthday. Just a simple six inch triangle pattern, but I think it’s so sweet and pretty. I remember as a kid, we had a quilt my mom had made from old clothes when she was about thirteen. I loved looking at all of the different fabrics and patterns. I hope Clara (the baby) feels the same way about her new quilt.
